My husband does not like the thick, bulky, work ... especially in Houston's hot summer months so he decided to give these a try. Every time I shop at Old Navy he requests for me to buy him another pair or two for work. His career involves a lot of squatting, climbing, and kneeling so he was always looking for a comfortable pair of ... These ... not only comfortable, they are also affordable!

Perfect for manual labor work!!!
My fiance' now has 5 pairs of these painter ... work. He had 2 pair, and I just bought him 3 more pair. He is an electrician, and says they are perfect for his job!!!! Remember, they are work ... not going out on the town ... He is tall 36L and has always had a hard time finding ... long enough. They have held up to rigorous working conditions very well!

BELL BOTTOMS?
thought this jean would stay true to its style "painters" but it really looks like "bell bottoms" or "boot cut". I order 6 pairs of mens painter/loose fit and the ALL fit like bell bottoms why is that?

Good ...
The mens loose carpenter ... fit my husband great. They are a nice wash and he can wear them on the job or casual outings. Thanks!

Sizing off from a few years ago
I've been purchasing Old Navy ... exclusively for about 5 years now. In the last 2 years the well fitting jean I had enjoyed has not fit so well. Specifically the "Tall" in Mens 48" isn't available and the "Big" 48" waist is cut for someone with a _much_ shorter hip and rear. I hope they being offering larger waist sizes in the "Tall" cut.

One change made, time for another
Ever since high school, I have at the end of summer bought three pairs of ... two of the painter, and one, slightly nicer pair of the straight fit to appease my mother. I've been out of high school some time, and no longer care what my mother says about my clothes. But some habits stick with a person. And at the end of last summer I purchased two painters and a straight. I love ON ... because they are practical, work wear, and not fashion ... Except for the part where that hasn't been true in years. As someone who spends five days a week in a warehouse, I put a lot of stress on my ... wear the painters because they are just tight enough to look nice while I'm in class, and baggy enough to be comfortable for long hours at work. Except that my once perfect fitting ... now too short in the leg, and by late December (the end of the busy season) have holes forming all over, and by the end of January, the pockets have worn out. I don't overly mind the slightly tighter fit. I do mind the fact that a company that used to be about practical fashion has given way to sub par materials. Give us back our inexpensive indestructible work wear!

Still Disappointed
I have been an avid buyer of Old Navy clothes for a long time. Their mens carpentar jeans were the greatest. They have since changed their mens jeans and not for the better. Please bring back the old jeans that fit loose through the thigh and fit taller people. I have read many reviews and noticed I'm not the only one who wishes you would bring back the old jeans!!!!
New Design is Terrible - No Longer True to Size or Flattering
I am a designer and I have read a few reviews saying that people who do not like the new cut of these ... behind the times or out of style. I would say the authors of those reviews are just being uppity or snobbish. The new cut of these ... much narrower through the quad and crotch. They are no longer a "loose" fit. My husband has been wearing these ... least ten years and has loved them. He wore them to work and play. The old cut had enough room that you could work in them and be physically active. The new cut binds through the inseam and pulls tight across the quad. They also have an odd shape to the back side of the jean making the rear end look very unattractive. In addition the sizing is no longer accurate, I purchase one size larger than my husband normally wears because the ... looked narrower than normal on the shelf, but they were still too tight through the quad and were binding in the groin. My husband and I both used to love these ... but with the new cut they are no longer practical, they do not allow free movement which really is the point of a painters cut jean. I sincerely hope Old Navy will rethink the new cut and go back to the old true loose fit cut. I will be returning the three pairs of these I bought today and may have to take our business elsewhere in the future if something is not done to fix the design of this jean by next season.
Not impressed at all!
The mens ... were either made wrong or sized wrong. My husband has the same ... homeand loves them. However, these were not even close to being the same. He could not even get them pulled up or zipped. I will be returning them.
Bring Back The Old Style
I cannot wear the new mens painters ... They are nothing like the pairs I have from 2007 and 2008. They are way to tight and that is the last thing you want in a loose fitting pair of ... Not sure who at Old Navy is designing these ... but they may want to look for another line of work. I just bought four new pair and will be taking them back immediately. Please change back to the way they were like so many others have requested. If not, I will have to start looking elsewhere and I have worn Old Navy denim for over ten years.
wish they did not change
so i have been wearing the carpenter/painter ... years now. i work out doors and these have always been the best in comfort and durability. but i feel like i am being forced to change because they have made the carpenter/painter ... tight in the crouch and to short in the waist, i almost thought they had gotten womens measurments mixed in with the mens. so i just bought some carpenter ... [...] found out not to bad and will live with these now. maybe in the future i will hear that old navy changes and goes back to a normal fit, if that happens i will be back but until then you have lost me as a jean customer permantly.
Paint the house or paint the town! These classic loose-fit painter jeans are up for anything, with cool new washes and the handy tool pocket details you love.
